Cheesman Canyon Trail Assessment and Strategy

ERO and Tapis Associates have been working with the Pike National Forest, Denver Water, and Trout Unlimited to complete a trail assessment and management strategy for Cheesman Canyon near Deckers. The study area consists of a narrow, remote canyon that supports a world-class gold medal fishery along the South Platte River, which is also critical for the City of Denver’s water supply. Recreation access in the canyon has resulted in significant social trails, erosion, and sedimentation. This effort has included detailed assessment of the designated trail and numerous social trails, a management strategy to address visitor access and resource protection needs, and the design of a pilot project to test various management strategies.
