Business Development and Environmental Planning Intern – Summer

ERO is an environmental consulting firm headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and we are seeking a Business Development and Environmental Planning Intern for summer 2024 in our Denver, Colorado office.

At ERO, we are a team of natural and cultural resource consultants with offices in Denver, Durango, and Grand Junction, Colorado. Our expertise in science and planning provides an approach to the environment that balances development with natural resource and environmental protection. Position Overview

As an Intern, you will learn to apply technical skills in both business development and the public comment environmental planning process. The Intern will gain experience in the environmental consulting industry and exposure to environmental regulations, permit applications, and document preparation.

Under the immediate supervision of the project manager or senior staff, the Intern will work in the business development and environmental planning department on tasks related to systems and reporting. The Intern will assist in data collection, analysis, interpretation of the planning process, and other natural resource-related work. Additional duties include assisting with literature research, organization, and database entry. Depending on experience, the Intern may also prepare sections of draft reports and write social media posts.

The number of hours per week will vary from 24 to 40+. A hybrid work schedule may be available based on business needs.

Professionalism, integrity, and comfort working with people are of the utmost importance as this position requires regular contact with team members in the field, office, and virtually, as needed. Applicants for this position are expected to be capable of performing the tasks described below.

Expected Duties
  • Assist in organization, preparation, and accuracy of client information for data entry.
  • Review scopes of service with the Project Manager so duties are clearly understood.
  • Upload/scan data into the appropriate server files daily.
  • Assist with completion of resource documentation on appropriate forms regarding the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process.  
  • Assist with reports, which may include modifying drafts, creating figures, and editing for accuracy.
  • Assist with NEPA project records and public comment analysis.
  • Assist in developing and designing marketing materials, identifying clients, and identifying potential outreach opportunities.
Physical Requirements

The Intern position requires lifting up to 30 pounds (file boxes) and other light-duty work. Work may also include periods of sedentary work including sitting/standing and use of a computer.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Pursuing or received a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resource planning, or similar discipline.
  • Completed junior-level course work toward a degree in the desired discipline.
  • Familiarity with tablets, digital data entry, Microsoft Office Suite products, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • General knowledge of environmental planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and ask questions.
Expectations

The internship will run from May 2024 to the end of September 2024; however, employment may be extended beyond the season if mutually agreeable.

The salary range is $17.50 to $20.00/hour dependent on experience/education. This is a non-exempt position, and overtime will be compensated accordingly.
