Richard Trenholme is Vice President of ERO and has 30 years of consulting experience. He has a broad background in the physical and natural sciences including soils, vegetation, geology, chemistry, and hydrology. Richard's expertise is managing environmental impact analyses for NEPA compliance. In addition, he is a Certified Professional Soil Scientist and has completed soil and vegetation surveys for a variety of proposed developments and directs ERO’s geosciences group. Richard has a sound grasp of the regulatory requirements for site characterization under RCRA and CERCLA. He coordinates site assessments, remediation of contaminated sites, and soil and vegetation contamination studies. His projects address waste investigations, chlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, pesticides, herbicides, metals, and combustible gases. Summary of Experience NEPA Compliance. Richard’s background in NEPA compliance includes management of controversial EIS projects such as a proposed copper mine beneath a designated Wilderness, a proposed gold mine near Yellowstone National Park, and a management plan for Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge. He has a broad understanding of issues that are typically critical to successful NEPA projects, such as wetlands, endangered species, cultural resources, and land management. Richard has worked on the following types of projects: coal and hard-rock mines, ski developments, water developments, transportation projects, management plans, and wildlife refuges. He is familiar with the land management and NEPA compliance policies of most Federal land-managing agencies, particularly the Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Fish and Wildlife Service. Natural Resource Assessments. Richard has completed numerous soil baseline studies and soil surveys throughout the western United States. He is familiar with a wide variety of soils, ranging from desert soils of Arizona and Nevada, to alpine soil of Montana and Colorado. Richard has served as an expert in soils and their suitability for irrigated agriculture in large water right adjudications. He has authored papers on the role of soil survey in land development projects. Site Characterization Studies. Managed site characterization studies and site assessments for sites contaminated with petroleum or chlorinated hydrocarbons, metals, or pesticides and herbicides. Phase I Environmental Site Assessments. Completed over 200 Phase I Environmental Site Assessments over the past 15 years. Clients have included homebuilders, developers, lending institutions, and commercial and industrial businesses. Petroleum Storage Tank Management. Managed projects involving petroleum storage tanks for over 15 years. Responsible for completing comprehensive reviews of compliance with regulations for tank management as well as site closures and assessment. Richard is a Listed Environmental Consultant with the Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety. Expert Witness. Expert witness in numerous civil and criminal cases in Federal and District courts. Provided testimony and litigation support for projects involving the nature and extent of soil and ground water contamination, effect on property value due to soil or ground water contamination, and costs to cleanup contaminated sites. |
