Mark DeHaven is a principal and senior natural resource scientist with ERO Resources. Since 1978, Mark has conducted resource evaluations throughout the Rocky Mountain region and the western United States for water resource developments; road construction; wildlife refuges; oil, gas, and mineral exploration; ski area expansion; residential development; and recreation and open land planning.

Summary of Experience

NEPA Compliance. Mark has assisted federal, state, and municipal governments as well as private entities through the often-complex NEPA compliance process. He is familiar with all phases of NEPA compliance including scoping, development of a sound purpose and needs, screening and selection of reasonable alternatives, analysis of environmental effects, including cumulative effects and preparation of thorough defensible documents. Mark's has prepared numerous environmental impact statements (EISs) and environmental assessments (EAs) that have resulted in the successful implementation of road construction projects, pipelines, habitat conservation plans, water developments, recreation and wildlife management plans, well field development, and transportation management plans.

Threatened and Endangered Species. Mark has solid expertise in addressing the regulatory requirements of the Endangered Species Act. He has conducted field investigations for threatened and endangered species and other species of concern, prepared numerous biological assessments and biological evaluations, and assisted clients with Section 7 consultation. Mark also has prepared habitat conservation plans for non-federal entities.

Environmental Resource Assessments. Mark has conducted environmental investigations ranging from evaluations for vegetation, old growth forest, wetlands, soils, water, and wildlife. He has assisted clients with erosion control planning, development of mitigation measures, wildlife crossing structures, wetland delineations, soil surveys, impact assessments, and other studies needed to protect resources and meet environmental compliance requirements.

Open Land and Refuge Planning. Mark has assisted municipalities with environmental studies and recommendations for the acquisition and protection of lands for open space and parks. These evaluations have led to the establishment of open space, placement of trails, and development of recreation management guidelines. He also has assisted with management planning and impact assessments for several National Wildlife Refuges.
