Since 1989, Karen Baud has been involved in ecological research, wildlife evaluations, and mitigation planning projects. Her focus is on wildlife field investigations, site characterizations, and development of wildlife mitigation plans. Karen has contributed to a variety of projects related to natural resource development, including oil and gas, metals mining, hydroelectric power, water resources, highway, ski area, trails, and residential development projects. She has conducted numerous ecological field investigations in support of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects, as well as projects for state and local governments or private clients. Karen has assisted her diverse clients by developing plans for mitigating potential effects to wildlife, involving extensive coordination with the appropriate state, local, and federal agencies. SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE Wildlife Biology. Karen has supervised and conducted numerous ecological field investigations including threatened and endangered species, vegetation, raptor, big game, songbird, small mammal, and amphibian surveys. Karen’s research has included a short-term study of habitat use by overwintering raptors and thesis research on food-caching behavior of Clark’s nutcracker She has participated in volunteer work with the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory and conducted migratory bird and raptor baseline and monitoring surveys. NEPA Compliance. Karen’s NEPA related experience includes assistant project management, task management for biological resources, coordination of GIS analysis, ecological field investigations and technical document production for Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs). Her NEPA experience includes oil and gas; water storage and delivery; mining; hydroelectric power development; facility management; and highway construction projects. Preparation of these NEPA documents required close coordination with local, state, and federal agencies. Endangered Species Act Compliance. Karen has conducted surveys for threatened or endangered species, prepared habitat assessments and biological assessments, and participated in consultation with the Fish and Wildlife Service for a variety of projects. Natural Resource Planning. While assisting numerous private and local government clients, Karen has conducted natural resource assessments, facilitated mitigation planning, participated in natural resources planning, and prepared habitat assessments. She has facilitated consultation with the appropriate government agencies to assist her clients with environmental compliance issues. Geosciences. Karen has prepared and conducted Human Health Risk Assessments, Phase I Site Assessments, and Due Diligence Services at industrial sites for a wide array of international clients. In addition, Karen developed an Ecological Risk Assesssment method to be implemented at a site in France. |
